Re: Post your collection

I decided to give my M14 a bit of a facelift, so here it is after its new coat of paint. I used the Rust-Oleum Khaki from their Camouflage range, and so far I'm very impressed with the finish. The rifle hasn't been in a firefight since the new paint job -- once it's been on the field for a few games I'll have a better idea of how hard-wearing the paint is. Eventually I may go the whole hog and camouflage it properly, but I first want to make sure it isn't all going to rub off on the first game!

Oh my, stop with the sexy guns people!
I love two-tone tan and black jobs. Looks very nice. Maybe some pictures with better lighting and a close-up of the finish?

I just took the photo a few minutes ago under fluorescent lighting, which doesn't show it off very well. I'll try and get some closeups in daylight.

Re: Post your collection

Thank you. The only trouble with matt paints like the R-O Camo range is that they show off any handling -- you can already see some fingerprints just above the trigger, and it hasn't seen any action yet. I would prefer not to varnish it since it defeats the matt finish that makes the paint so nice.

The handling marks will give it character. Crawl around in the garden with it and then see what happens. :P

Re: Post your collection

can always put a matte clear coat on it if you worried, will make it a little more long lasting. Just becareful which one you use, make sure its for plastic (or whatever the stock is made of) otherwise you'll end up with a very sticky rifle.

Re: Post your collection

The original stock was plastic, so I used Rust-Oleum plastic primer and then the matt khaki was sprayed over it. From some testing I did on a plastic milk bottle prior to this, I found that the plastic primer makes quite a difference to how hard-wearing the final coat is. That's on a plastic bottle though. We'll see soon enough how well it lasts on a rifle.
